Chain 42 (depends on the yarn of course, just remeber you will work in pairs).

Then chain 3, counts as your first double chrochet, dc, stitch. (Red)

Continue with dc stiches until the end of the first row.

Then you make one dc stich, and that's your first pair. (Sorry it's a bit blur here but I was falling of the chair and under time pressure ;o)).
So now you make a dc stich around the 3rd dc stich on the first row. And then one more and that's your 2nd pair.
Work in pairs until the end of the row.

Then you just continue the same way until you have square.
Chain 3, always counts as your first dc, then one dc = first pair
Then you make one dc around the 3rd dc on the previous row and then one more = 2nd pair
And that's how you work your way until finished.
I really truly hope this makes sense, and that my english is understandable.

I love the red and white contrast Anna and your instructions seem fine - even for a beginner like me.

Aha, de där är ju som min mormor Sigrids grytlappar. Tyckte det såg bekant ut! Ha en fortsatt skön vecka.

Wow, I just found you through Lucy. Love your blog and have set up to follow. Love the Blue, White and Red. Great instructions
That was soooooo nice to se again. I learned this from my grandmother more than 30 years ago, and it was so ok to refresh the technique.
Have a nice day!
You have a lot of patience and skill! Crochet is something I really must learn to do myself and once I get to grips with it I will come back to make one of these!

I've been looking for some different pattern for the mug cozies I'm about to crochet. Will give it a go tonight.
Thank you :)
Oooooo, lovely Anna. That's a pattern I've never tried. I shall put that on my list. The red, white and pale blue is one of my favourite colour combos too. XO
Love it. I was just looking for another pattern. I have found these easy to work on, with all the remodeling going on. Love the Red/White look. I have the perfect yarn to give it a go today. Great tutorial.
Thanks so much,
Kate - The Garden Bell
Love this Anna.. Shall definitely try this out and post it soon..
Could you please let me know how you tie out the yarn at each ends.. that is where ever you change the colours.. Please mail me @ nithakj@gmail.com
Hej!
